What most people do not realize is that regardless of where you live an Earthquake could strike at any given time. While many states such as California, Washington, Nevada, Alaska and a few others commonly experience earthquakes on a regular basis.
What causes an Earthquake?
The Earth’s crust has fault lines, these lines are areas where rocks or pieces of the crust has broken loose. Earthquakes originate in the top of the mantle layer and the crust layer are made up of thin “skin” however, the skin is in pieces, and when one piece moves over the top of another piece or two pieces bang together it creates an earthquake.
Every state has fault lines some of which are very small and some are very large, such as the San Andreas Fault line in California and the New Madrid, which is located in the central part of the United States. These two are the largest and most active, however, even a small fault line can create an earthquake.
