Health care has had some major changes recently, with mandatory health coverage and deadlines that you have to meet. Here is some information about Open Enrollment and your health care coverage that you may find useful to know as you look for the best health care policy for you.
Open Enrollment Deadlines:
Open Enrollment begins on November 15th and ends February 15th 2015.
What happens if you miss the deadline?
If you do not sign up for a health insurance policy during this period, then you will have to wait until the next year’s Open Enrollment period to get health coverage. Exceptions are only made if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period by having a significant life event affect you.
What are your options for health care?
You have a couple different options during the Open Enrollment period. You can get health care coverage through your employer or go through the Marketplace and browse the different individual policies available. Both options will be affordable under the Affordable Care Act, so it is up to you whether an employer’s plan or an individual plan is better for you.
What if you already have a plan?
If you are enrolled in a health insurance plan from the last Open Enrollment, your coverage ends on December 31st. When the coverage ends, you have a couple of options. You can go through the Marketplace and find yourself a new plan, or, if you like the plan you have, whether it is offered through your employer or it is an individual plan, you can simply renew it. You should review your policy before your coverage ends to see which option is best for you.
